The Winchester Reads committee for 2008
is delighted to announce the book choice for this year:
ANN PATCHETT’S “RUN”.
This novel, a New York Times bestseller, will be available in paperback in late July, and Ann Patchett will speak in Winchester on Wednesday evening, October 29, 2008. This event will be free and will be held in the McCall Middle School auditorium.
The Winchester Reads project is sponsored for the seventh year by the John and Mary Murphy Educational Foundation.
Ann Patchett is the author of the modern classic novel BEL CANTO which has won many literary awards and has been translated into more than 30 languages. Her previous novels and nonfiction have won awards also, including a Guggenheim Fellowship.
Winchester’s own Bill O’Connor will speak at the Jenks Senior Center’s Pond Room about “The Irish In Boston” at 7 pm on Tuesday October 7,2008. He is presented by the Winchester Reads project for 2008 in connection with Ann Patchett’s best selling novel, set in Boston, RUN. This event is free and open to the public. Join us for coffee and cookies at 6:30 p.m. and be assured that you will be home in time to watch the presidential debate at 9 pm
Book Ends’ own book group will meet on Tuesday, October 14 at 7 p.m. at Book Ends. They will discuss the town read book, RUN, by Ann Patchett. All are welcome to attend.
On Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 4 pm, author Laurie Keller will be at Book Ends to speak and sign copies of her newest children’s picture book, THE SCRAMBLED STATES OF AMERICA TALENT SHOW. Publishers Weekly writes, “Keller is once again guilty of transporting laughter across state lines…” This event is free and open to the public.
Author Gregory Maguire will stop by Book Ends on Monday October 20, 2008 around 2 pm to sign copies of his new novel A LION AMONG MEN. He is, of course, the beloved author of WICKED, the novel that turned into the smash Broadway hit.
On Sunday, October 26, at 3 pm author Gigi Amateau will be at Book Ends to speak and sign copies of CHANCEY OF THE MAURY RIVER. This heartwarming horse story will appeal most to readers in grades 4 to 8.
On Sunday, October 26 at 3 pm, children’s author Brian Lies will be at the Winchester Public Library to sign and read from his latest book, BATS AT THE LIBRARY. This event is free and open to the public.
